Strange as this may seem, I'm going to start at the end and work backwards through the life of Eugene Lynch, my great grand father. On 10 August 1896, in the midst of a lingering heat wave that plagued the greater Waterbury area, Eugene fell to his death from the fourth floor porch of his cousin (Mrs. Ellen Walsh), corner of Fuller & _____ Streets. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his cause of death was listed as "Fractured Skull". The event was reported on the front pages of both the Waterbury Republican and Waterbury American newspapers (haven't checked the Democrat yet). Given the year of death, I looked to the 1900 U.S. Federal Census (already knowing the names of the four chidren I was looking for - my dad's dad, as well as his aunts and uncles). We find the following:
